It has been pointed out that Nick Reiner might be foreclosed from inheriting any money from his parents' estates' if he is found to have killed them. And so we return for a third time to the topic of "slayer" statutes and rules, which sometimes have a connection to ERISA benefits, which seem to be a source of morbid fascination for me and which I've most recently explored here in 2020.
Not to be overly un-PC, but, if he did it, he's an indescribably useless waste of life and privilege, and deserving of no sympathy or other pathetically supportive blather. This kid squandered a ridiculously easy path served up to him on a silver platter for which most would beg on bended knee, and pointlessly made for himself a life of self-imposed torture that, if he did it, he imposed with stunning finality on his very own parents. Boy, drugs and the like must be realllllllly good, huh?
Aww, poor little Nicky* - he was such a troubled lad. Garbage. If he did it, he's a murderous, evil and horrific monster of incalculable proportions. Period.
The absolute very least that should befall this cretinous monster, if he did it, is the loss of his inheritance. Maybe it's time to give ol' Nick** the Jeffreys treatment previously accorded to Messrs. Dahmer and Epstein, whereby the authorities find a way to turn their backs just long enough on a person to . . . oh, oops, look at that, he's gone. Indeed, if he did it, it would be nice if they could figure out a way for him to be left in some almost-dead conscious state of agonizing pain for the rest of his miserable life.***
Rob Reiner's work was incredible. As has been perceptively noticed by others, his efforts in multiple genres arguably stand as the best work in those genres. The best fantasy, the best adult comedy, the best courtroom drama, the best prison movie (to many, the best movie ever), the best coming-of-age movie, the best mockumentary (that one spawned or at least popularized an entire genre). He effectively added the phrase, "Bucket List", to the English language.**** One of his movies is indirectly responsible for people being confused about whether Martin Sheen was, or at should have been, a real President. He got Kathy Bates an Oscar. Seinfeld might not exist if not for him.
Mr. Reiner, you'll always go to 11.

* If only this were merely a bad Adam Sandler movie.
** No, this was not the (St.) Nick we look forward to for a visit around Christmastime.

**** The ability to add words and phrases to actual language in a durable way has long fascinated me.
