Back in '84, Beverly Hills Cop and Eddie Murphy exploded onto the scene to lock in one of the most iconic careers in entertainment, with a spectacular cast bolstered by an equally spectacular soundtrack. Now we have Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. As a movie, it may be more a celebration of what came before than a success in its own right. However, works for me.
But more importantly than all that, and while it took about four decades, Murphy's Axel Foley has finally homed in on the value of retirement savings. [SPOILER ALERT - the following gives away a key plotline] When Kevin Bacon's Cade Grant complains about how he got only a ribbon for getting seriously hurt in the job, Axel asks: "What you think the cartel* is going to give you? A f***ing 401k and a timeshare in Boca?"
So it turns out that, for those of us who are appropriately focused, the key takeaway is that . . . Axel Foley knows the value of a f***ing 401(k)!
